Library Media Program

The Library Media Program of Allegany County is an integral part of the learning process. The school library media specialist uses information literacy standards and the Maryland State Curricula to maintain a program that supports life-long learning. In each school, the library media specialist assists the learning community in becoming active and creative locators, evaluators, and users of information.

School Library Media Centers:

  • Integrate an instructional program that increases achievement, guiding students to become independent learners
  • Obtain a variety of resources for locating information for specific needs
  • Promote the love of reading and literature appreciation
  • Organize, evaluate, and select print, non-print, and digital materials that support instruction
  • Access current and relevant information
  • Deliver collections that are diversified, accessible, and equitable
  • Enhance learning and use of new technologies
  • Encourage ethical use of resources and copyright standards
  • Partner with others to develop a community of learners and an environment conducive to learning
