Health

Health education is an integral part of the school curriculum that focuses on prevention of health problems and the development of behaviors that lead to a quality lifestyle. Health education is also an essential component of the total school health program which is comprised of several elements including school health services, the healthful school enviroment, and health instruction. Comprehensive school health education emphasizes physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being and initiates a process of life-long learning designed to promote health and prevent disease.

D.A.R.E. Program

The overarching goal of the entire D.A.R.E program is to significantly reduce/eliminate the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and the use of violent behavior by young people. The primary objectives of the 5th and 7th grade programs are directed toward developing the capacities needed to enable students to take charge of their lives with particular emphasis on abstinence from substance use and abuse.

American Education Week is November 16-20, 2009.
